I attended NEMCC in Booneville, MS where I received my associate's degree. I graduated from Blue Mountain College with a BS in Elementary Education. I have endorsements for K-3 and 4-6.  I have continued my education through University of MS and ICC.

I have taught 22 years in four different school districts. I began my teaching career in Marshall County teaching Kindergarten at Byhalia Elementary. My second job was with Desoto County Schools where I taught first grade and Kindergarten at Horn Lake Elementary. Next, I moved to Tupelo and taught at Thomas Street School where I taught Kindergarten. Recently, I taught in Union County Schools teaching sixth grade and Kindergarten at East Union, and third grade at Myrtle Attendance Center. I came to SIS in 2012 to teach 5th grade. I currently teach third grade and I love it!

My name is Mellissa Kitchens. I have a wonderful husband, Les, and two children. My daughter, Lakin, is 23, and a student at the University of MS. My son, Eli, age 12, is a seventh grader at Desoto Central Middle School. We love to travel and are involved in many sports' activities. We attend Ole Miss games frequently! :)
