NEWS TO KNOW

for the week of

                                           April 27-May 1

*THIS WEEK WE ARE STUDYING THE HUMAN BODY AND NUTRITION. WE WILL BE HAVING A HEALTHY FOOD BUFFET FOR OUR STUDENTS ON FRIDAY, MAY 1ST. EACH STUDENT HAS BEEN ASSIGNED AN ITEM TO BRING IN FOR THE LUNCH BY FRIDAY. PLEASE CHECK THE NOTE AND SEND IN YOUR ITEM BY FRIDAY.

*ALSO, BE SURE TO TEXT ME PICTURES OF YOUR CABBAGES (901-494-8217) FOR THE CABBAGE GROWING CONTEST THIS 9WEEKS. INFORMATION WAS SENT HOME ALONG WITH PLANTS.

****OUR MOBY MAX READING CHALLENGE STARTED MARCH 23RD!! THE READING CHALLENGE WILL RUN MARCH 23RD THROUGH MAY 15TH. STUDENTS SHOULD READ AROUND 60 MINUTES PER WEEK TO STAY ON TRACK TO MEET THEIR READING GOALS. STUDENTS MUST HAVE AT LEAST 500 AT HOME MINUTES UNDER THE CATEGORY READING STORIES IN ORDER TO ATTEND THE CELEBRATION IN MAY. PLEASE CHECK AND SIGN FOLDERS WEEKLY FOR YOUR CHILD'S PROGRESS TOWARD HIS/HER READING GOAL.

***PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD TO READ AND LOG ON TO MOBY MAX AT HOME AS PART OF THEIR HOMEWORK/OUTSIDE READING TIME.

 **CHICKEN BISCUIT WEDNESDAY-Order forms for chicken biscuits will be in your child's folder this week. Chicken biscuits must be preordered. The cost is $3.00.
**Students may bring ice cream money on Fridays.The cost for ice cream is .75.

**PLEASE CHECK THE ACTIVITY CALENDAR IN YOUR CHILD'S FOLDER (LOCATED IN THE DAILY FOLDER). OUR ACTIVITY DAYS WILL BE ROTATED. WE WILL HAVE ACTIVITY TIME DAILY FROM 1:15 UNTIL 2:05. BELOW IS A KEY TO SHOW THE DAILY ACTIVITIES.

***PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD HAS A SNACK EACH DAY. OUR SNACK TIME WILL BE FROM 10:00 UNTIL 10:15.***SNACKS MAY ALSO BE PURCHASED BEFORE SCHOOL IN THE ROTUNDA FOR .25-.75.

 *Please remember to check your child's daily folder and homework agenda EACH night. We will be sending home several important reminders and new information, including information on upcoming events and fees that are due. PLEASE REMEMBER TO SIGN YOUR CHILD'S AGENDA EACH NIGHT!

 Put all money or notes to the teacher in the zipper pouch of your child's daily folder so that Mrs. Lisa can collect them. All money should be clearly labeled, so that we will know which fees you are paying or if it is for lunch, snack, etc.

Writing Focus Lessons- Editing/Revising

Review: Contractions (Review) and Singular Possessives,Simple and Compound Sentences, Adverbs,Adjectives,Prefixes and Compound Words, Singular and Plural Nouns, Common & Proper Nouns, Capitalization, Writing Statements, Questions, Commands, and Exclamations

MATH-Fractions
***INFORMATION WAS SENT HOME IN FOLDERS ABOUT MOBY MAX. PLEASE ALLOW YOUR CHILD TO PRACTICE ON THE FACT MASTER. IT WILL HELP THEM ON THEIR BASIC MATH FLUENCY FACTS. BY THE END OF THE 9 WEEKS, STUDENTS SHOULD BE FLUENT IN BOTH ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION FACTS THROUGH 20. TIMED QUIZZES ARE GIVEN TO ASSESS FLUENCY.

Review-, Measurement, Addition and Subtraction of Numbers Within 1000 Using Multiple Strategies- Models, Break Apart, and Algorithym (Review),Skip Counting by 2's, 5's, 10's, Place Value, Number Bonds, Review of Basic Addition and Subtraction Facts, Counting to 1,000, <, >, = and Ordering Numbers (Greatest to Least and Least to Greatest) & later this week Addition/Subtraction of Numbers through 100, Even/Odd numbers
