Announcements:

DON'T FORGET OUR SCHOLASTIC CHANGE DRIVE. ALL MONEY COLLECTED WILL BE USED TO PURCHASE BOOKS FOR OUR CLASSROOM!

***PTO MEETING SEPTEMBER 18TH @ 6:00.THERE WILL BE SPEAKERS FROM COUNTY OFFICE DISCUSSING THE COMMON CORE.
****PICTURE MONEY IS DUE BY SEPTEMBER 18TH.

****The BOOK FAIR will begin September 25th. We will be shopping on our library day. More information will be sent home in folders.

*Please be sure to read and complete your graphic organizers for Wild About Reading this week.Your child may use their library book or a book from MYON. MYON password cards are stapled to the pocket of your child's daily folder. Please be sure to check your child's work before he/she turns it in.

STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE 10 GRAPHIC ORGANIZERS BY OCTOBER 3RD TO ATTEND OUR PARTY!

**Order forms for chicken biscuits will be in your child's folder this week. Chicken biscuits must be preordered.

**Students may bring ice cream money on Fridays.The cost for ice cream is .75.

**PLEASE CHECK THE ACTIVITY CALENDAR IN YOUR CHILD'S FOLDER (LOCATED IN THE DAILY FOLDER). OUR ACTIVITY DAYS WILL BE ROTATED. WE WILL HAVE ACTIVITY TIME DAILY FROM 1:15 UNTIL 2:05. BELOW IS A KEY TO SHOW THE DAILY ACTIVITIES.

***PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD HAS A SNACK EACH DAY. OUR SNACK TIME WILL BE FROM 10:00 UNTIL 10:15.***SNACKS MAY ALSO BE PURCHASED BEFORE SCHOOL IN THE ROTUNDA FOR .25-.75.

 *Please remember to check your child's daily folder and homework agenda EACH night. We will be sending home several important reminders and new information, including information on upcoming events and fees that are due. PLEASE REMEMBER TO SIGN YOUR CHILD'S AGENDA EACH NIGHT!

 Put all money or notes to the teacher in the zipper pouch of your child's daily folder so that Mrs. Lisa can collect them. All money should be clearly labeled, so that we will know which fees you are paying or if it is for lunch, snack, etc.

WILD ABOUT READING CHALLENGE: STUDENTS MUST READ 1 BOOK AT HOME AND COMPLETE 1 READING TICKET FOR HOMEWORK THIS WEEK. THIS IS DUE BY FRIDAY EACH WEEK, UNLESS YOUR CHILD IS READING A CHAPTER BOOK. IN THIS CASE YOUR CHILD MAY TURN IT IN THE FOLLOWING MONDAY. YOUR CHILD MAY USE HIS/HER LIBRARY BOOK OR A BOOK FROM MYON TO COMPLETE THE GRAPHIC ORGANIZER.

* We will be using the DAILY 5 model for teaching independent reading strategies this year. We will work on Read to Self, Read to Someone, Retelling a Story, Check for Understanding (go back through the book to see if you remember what you've read), Crosschecking (look at the letters and pictures...does the word make sense), Tune in to Interesting Words (make notes of new words), and Back Up and Reread ( if you can't remember what you've read or it doesn't make sense, read it again)

 SPELLING-say, great, four, help, through, cold, gold, fold, mold, sold, told, bold, oldest, patrol, violin
****This year we will be changing the format of our spelling tests in our class. This year our class will be focusing intensely on writing concepts. In order to do this, we will be focusing on using our spelling words in our writing exercises instead of simply taking a call out test. This test will be a spelling dictation test, meaning that the words above and basic sight words will be used to create sentences.The students will have a spelling list to study weekly and the sentences will be made from these words on the list and other high frequency words and words that we have already featured on prior spelling lists. These sentences will be read aloud to students and repeated multiple times. The students will write the sentences they hear. The students will not have the sentences to study in advanceStudents will be graded on spelling, capital letters, and punctuation. The students will also be using these words daily to generate their own sentences in class writing activities.
 *Writing Assessment Friday.
