* We will be using the DAILY 5 model for teaching independent reading strategies this year. We will work on Read to Self, Read to Someone, Retelling a Story, Check for Understanding (go back through the book to see if you remember what you've read), Crosschecking (look at the letters and pictures...does the word make sense), Tune in to Interesting Words (make notes of new words), and Back Up and Reread ( if you can't remember what you've read or it doesn't make sense, read it again)
Writing Focus Lessons
SPELLING-LIST FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS
****This year we will be changing the format of our spelling tests in our class. This year our class will be focusing intensely on writing concepts. In order to do this, we will be focusing on using our spelling words in our writing exercises instead of simply taking a call out test. This test will be similar to the spelling dictation tests that we have been taking except for the students will not have the sentences to study in advance. The students will have a spelling list to study weekly or bi-weekly and the sentences will be made from these words on the list and other high frequency words and words that we have already featured on prior spelling lists. Students will be graded on spelling, capital letters, and punctuation.
Thanks so much- Mrs. Lyles and Mrs. Lisa
