NEWS TO KNOW

for the week of

April 21-25

***THE LAST DAY FOR STUDENTS TO MEET THEIR AR GOALS IS APRIL 25!

****OUR LAST FIELDTRIP OF THE YEAR WILL BE TO THE BOTANIC GARDENS ON FRIDAY,MAY 9TH. STUDENTS NEED TO WEAR CLASS SHIRTS ON THAT DAY AND BRING A SACK LUNCH.

****PLEASE BE SURE TO READ THIS "NEWS TO KNOW" ON MONDAY EACH WEEK SO THAT YOU WILL BE INFORMED OF WEEKLY ACTIVITIES AND REMINDERS.****


**PLEASE CHECK THE ACTIVITY CALENDAR IN YOUR CHILD'S FOLDER (LOCATED IN THE DAILY FOLDER). OUR ACTIVITY DAYS WILL BE ROTATED. WE WILL HAVE ACTIVITY TIME DAILY FROM 1:15 UNTIL 2:05. BELOW IS A KEY TO SHOW THE DAILY ACTIVITIES.

***LUNCH TIME IS 12:00-12:30.***

***PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD HAS A SNACK EACH DAY. OUR SNACK TIME WILL BE FROM 10:00 UNTIL 10:15.***SNACKS MAY ALSO BE PURCHASED BEFORE SCHOOL IN THE ROTUNDA FOR .25-.75.

 Please remember to check your child's daily folder and homework agenda EACH night. We will be sending home several important reminders and new information, including information on upcoming events and fees that are due. PLEASE REMEMBER TO SIGN YOUR CHILD'S AGENDA EACH NIGHT!

 Put all money or notes to the teacher in the zipper pouch of your child's daily folder so that Mrs. Lisa can collect them. All money should be clearly labeled, so that we will know which fees you are paying or if it is for lunch, snack, etc.

We will work on Read to Self, Read to Someone, Retelling a Story, Check for Understanding (go back through the book to see if you remember what you've read), Crosschecking (look at the letters and pictures...does the word make sense), Tune in to Interesting Words (make notes of new words), and Back Up and Reread ( if you can't remember what you've read or it doesn't make sense, read it again)

 SPELLING-LIST FOR THE NEXT TWO WEEKS

 ****This 9 weeks we will be changing the format of our spelling tests in our class. This semester our class will be focusing intensely on writing concepts. In order to do this, we will be focusing on using our spelling words in our writing exercises instead of simply taking a call out test. This test will be similar to the spelling dictation tests that we have been taking except for the students will not have the sentences to study in advance. The students will have a spelling list to study weekly or bi-weekly and the sentences will be made from these words on the list and other high frequency words and words that we have already featured on prior spelling lists. Students will be graded on spelling, capital letters, and punctuation.

 *Things we need for our classroom: (These items do not need to be new)

an electric pencil sharpener, decks of playing cards, children's books (new or used), sticky notes, bag of animal crackers (for those who forget snacks), children's board games or puzzles (new or used), Legos, small "Happy Meal" toys for the treasure box, any other items for the treasure box (send these in when you clean out your child's toy box- (WE RECYCLE! and the students LOVE them!) :)
