NEWS TO KNOW

for the week of

DECEMBER 1-5

Announcements:

****REMEMBER- OUR CLASS WILL BE GOING ON A FIELDTRIP TO SEE JOSEPH AND THE TECHNICOLOR DREAM COAT ON DECEMBER 3RD. STUDENTS MUST BRINGA SACK LUNCH AND A SNACK. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD HAS A SNACK ON THIS DAY BECAUSE WE WILL BE EATING LUNCH AROUND 10:00 AM AND WILL EAT OUR SNACK WHEN WE GET BACK TO THE SCHOOL. FOR THOSE PARENTS WHO ARE CHAPERONES...WE WILL BE LEAVING AROUND 10:30.

SANTA'S WORKSHOP FOR OUR CLASS IS DECEMBER 12TH. WE WILL SHOP FROM 1:15-2:05. PLEASE REMEMBER TO SEND MONEY ON THIS DAY IF YOU WISH FOR YOUR CHILD TO SHOP.

 **CHICKEN BISCUIT WEDNESDAY-Order forms for chicken biscuits will be in your child's folder this week. Chicken biscuits must be preordered. The cost is $3.00.
**Students may bring ice cream money on Fridays.The cost for ice cream is .75.

**PLEASE CHECK THE ACTIVITY CALENDAR IN YOUR CHILD'S FOLDER (LOCATED IN THE DAILY FOLDER). OUR ACTIVITY DAYS WILL BE ROTATED. WE WILL HAVE ACTIVITY TIME DAILY FROM 1:15 UNTIL 2:05. BELOW IS A KEY TO SHOW THE DAILY ACTIVITIES.

***PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD HAS A SNACK EACH DAY. OUR SNACK TIME WILL BE FROM 10:00 UNTIL 10:15.***SNACKS MAY ALSO BE PURCHASED BEFORE SCHOOL IN THE ROTUNDA FOR .25-.75.

 *Please remember to check your child's daily folder and homework agenda EACH night. We will be sending home several important reminders and new information, including information on upcoming events and fees that are due. PLEASE REMEMBER TO SIGN YOUR CHILD'S AGENDA EACH NIGHT!

 Put all money or notes to the teacher in the zipper pouch of your child's daily folder so that Mrs. Lisa can collect them. All money should be clearly labeled, so that we will know which fees you are paying or if it is for lunch, snack, etc.

******PLEASE REMEMBER OUR STORY CARDS THAT STUDENTS MUST COMPLETE FOR THIS 9 WEEKS TO ATTEND THE POLAR EXPRESS CELEBRATION. STUDENTS MUST READ AND COMPLETE SUMMARY CARDS FOR AT LEAST 15 BOOKS IN THEIR READING LEVELS BY FRIDAY, DECEMBER 12TH. CHAPTER BOOKS ARE ENCOURAGED (CHAPTER BOOKS MAY COUNT AS TWO SUMMARY CARDS, DEPENDING ON LENGTH.) STUDENTS WILL COLOR IN "MINIONS", AS I GRADE THE SUMMARIES, TO HELP YOU MONITOR YOUR CHILD'S PROGRESS.

 LANGUAGE ARTS-REVIEW OF SYNONYMS AND COMPOUND WORDS

Writing Focus Lessons- Summarizing and Reader's Response to Text

Review:Prefixes and Compound Words, Singular and Plural Nouns, Common & Proper Nouns, Capitalization, Writing Statements, Questions, Commands, and Exclamations

*Assessments will be given as needed to determine mastery.
MATH- Addition and Subtraction of Numbers Within 100 Using Multiple Strategies-Models, Break Apart, and Algorithym (TEST TUESDAY)
***Continued focus will be given for word problem strategies.

***INFORMATION WAS SENT HOME IN FOLDERS ABOUT MOBY MAX. PLEASE ALLOW YOUR CHILD TO PRACTICE ON THE FACT MASTER. IT WILL HELP THEM ON THEIR BASIC MATH FLUENCY FACTS. BY THE END OF THE 9 WEEKS, STUDENTS SHOULD BE FLUENT IN BOTH ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION FACTS THROUGH 20. TIMED QUIZZES ARE GIVEN TO ASSESS FLUENCY.

Review-Skip Counting by 2's, 5's, 10's, Place Value, Number Bonds, Review of Basic Addition and Subtraction Facts, Counting to 1,000, <, >, = and Ordering Numbers (Greatest to Least and Least to Greatest) & later this week Addition/Subtraction of Numbers through 100, Even/Odd numbers

 SPELLING- try, rest, again, data, record, fast, past, last, cost, blast, cast, best, just, must, trust, rest, lost

 *Sentence Dictation Assessment Friday
