About the Teacher/Welcome Msg

Welcome to Mrs. Kitchens' ELA class! I'm so happy to be back at school and start a new year with all of you.

Education: I attended NEMCC in Booneville, MS where I received my associate's degree. I graduated from Blue Mountain College with a BS in Elementary Education. I have endorsements for K-3 and 4-6.  I have continued my education through University of MS and ICC.

Experience: I have taught 26 1/2  years in four different school districts. I began my teaching career in Marshall County teaching Kindergarten at Byhalia Elementary. My second job was with Desoto County Schools where I taught first grade and Kindergarten at Horn Lake Elementary. Next, I moved to Tupelo and taught at Thomas Street School where I taught Kindergarten. Also, I taught in Union County Schools teaching sixth grade and Kindergarten at East Union, and third grade at Myrtle Attendance Center. I went to Southaven Intermediate in 2012 to teach 5th grade then taught 3rd grade there. Now, I currently teach 3rd grade at PHES and I absolutely love it! :)

Bio: My name is Mellissa Kitchens. I have a wonderful husband, Les, and two children. My daughter, Lakin, is 28, and lives in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.  My son, Eli, age 17 is a senior at Desoto Central High School. He plays soccer for Desoto Central and for the Desoto FC competitive team.  We love to travel and are involved in many sports' activities. Our favorite SEC team is Ole Miss! I am hoping for a fun football season.

A note from your teacher

Hello parents and students: I can't tell you how excited I am about being in school again! There is not a mask mandate at this time, but it is up to you if you want your child to wear one. It must be supplied by the parent. We will NOT have any to distribute this year.  We are still social distancing as much as possible. We will also clean between class changes daily.  Our students will get the education they need, as well as, social interaction with their peers!

I will be sending messages on School status and will update the website with any news or resources that can be utilized.

We will be using schoology most everyday.
