About the Teacher

Hello,

I am Yolanda R. Flie, your child’s 4th Grade English Language Arts, & I am very excited to be your child’s teacher. A little about me… I grew up in Arkansas, our neighboring state, and graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, have a Master’s of Arts in Teaching from Belhaven University, and recently became a National Board Certified Teacher. I am a military "brat". My dad served 26 years in the US Air Force. I think this is where I developed my love of traveling, meeting new people, and staying connected to family.

I have been married to my wonderful husband, Deon, for 25 years. We have three children, Jailyn, Donovan, and Dorian. My family and I enjoy spending time together and traveling. We also are active in our church, Brown Missionary Baptist Church. I am a children’s ministry teacher and a part of the NEXTGEN ministry.

I taught 12 years at DeSoto Central both in fourth and fifth grade. Before that I spent a short time here at PHES as a SPED assistant. All three of my children have been PHES Jaguars and are products of DeSoto Central Schools.  I am soooo excited to be back with the PHamily!!!! I believe this year will be an amazing educational journey for all of us and am eager to experience it with you and your child!

If you need to contact me, you may do so in two ways – either by emailing me at yolanda.flie@dcsms.org or using the link on the school’s website. You can also respond to the first text message I send or the phone call I make using SchoolStatus. If you save that number, it will be the one used when I correspond with you throughout the year.

  • Special Project : Cereal Box Book Report Due Wednesday, March 22nd

Students need to read a book of their choice (no graphic novels) and complete a book report about it. The report will be displayed on a cereal box. The box will need to be at least the size of a regular sheet of paper. Students will be given the template along with a packet to take notes for completing this. They need to determine what book they want to report about by THURSDAY, MARCH 9, 2023.

  • It is to be done at home but we will have some time in class to begin the project.

  • Social Studies: None

  1. Continuous Homework Option: Students can complete lessons on ixl.com for ELA. Any lessons completed need to be done at 80% accuracy or above. THIS IS NOT REQUIRED, but is very beneficial for students. They also work on ixl.com in school.
