About the Teacher
Hello,
I am Yolanda R. Flie, your child’s 4th Grade English Language Arts teacher. I am very excited to be your child’s teacher. A little about me… I grew up in Arkansas, our neighboring state, graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, have a Master’s of Arts in Teaching from Belhaven University, and am a National Board Certified Teacher. I am a military "brat". My dad served 26 years in the US Air Force. I think this is where I developed my love of traveling, meeting new people, and staying connected to family.
I have been married to my wonderful husband, Deon, for 26 years. We have three children, Jailyn, Donovan, and Dorian. My family and I enjoy spending time together and traveling. We also are active in our church, Brown Missionary Baptist Church. I am a children’s ministry teacher and a part of the NEXTGEN ministry.
This is my second year teaching at PHES, but consider it home because I started as an assistant here. Before coming back, I taught for 12 years at DeSoto Central Elementary, both in fourth and fifth grade. All three of my children have been PHES Jaguars and are products of DeSoto Central Schools. I believe this year will be an amazing educational journey for all of us and am eager to experience it with you and your child!
If you need to contact me, you may do so in two ways – either by emailing me at yolanda.flie@dcsms.org or using the link on the school’s website. You can also respond to the first text message I send or the phone call I make using SchoolStatus. If you save that number, it will be the one used when I correspond with you throughout the year.

Please let them know they are still accountable for their work and for their behavior until the last day of school. It was noted on the field trip form, that students can lose privileges such as field day and the field trip if they receive an office referral. We want to finish strong and also have fun in a safe and respectful manner. Please encourage your child to be at their best. Thanks!
Millions Cans Challenge continues through May!! We can also take clean and empty food cans and aluminum pans. Thank you for all of you who are sending in cans. WE CAN TAKE ALL TYPES OF CANS!
Yearbooks are on sale. They're $40. You may go to the school's webpage and click on the link to order.
Snack: Parents please remember to send in individual snacks and water in a bottle with cap or twist top. I keep a community snack bucket in the classroom and would love help providing snack for students who forget theirs or do not have one for the day. If you would like to donate items, please send in individually wrapped items with your child. We could also use candy for our treat contain for class rewards. Thank you in advance!
WATER BOTTLES: Mrs. Weaver and I have the policy that students will keep their water bottles in their cubbies except at lunch, recess and PE/Health activities. Our hope is to limit the number of spills we have had due to traveling between classes with water bottles or spills in the classroom. Thank you for understanding.
OFFICE HOURS: My office hours to contact me are each day from 2:15 - 3:00 pm. I do send messages after school, but if you message back I will not reply unless it is emergency. Typically after 5:30 pm, I am spending time with my family. Always check here if you have questions about what we are doing in the classroom, and then if you still have a question, you may message me. I will respond usually by the next school day. I appreciate you understanding.
FREE TUTORING: A company called PAPER is offering free on-line tutoring for students. You can go to your child's CLEVER page to find access to their site.
We are a LATEX FREE BUILDING. We have someone with a latex allergy. Please no balloons at school. Thanks!
Mrs. Magee would like me to remind you all that we will not have birthday parties here at school. You can send in store bought cupcakes or cookies. You cannot send in birthday goody bags for the class and birthday decorations.
If you come to lunch with your child please remember you can only come to lunch. Parents are not allowed to go back to your child's classroom unless you have prior permission from our school administration.
Thank you!
